Former UFC champion Usman said he mentally lost to Chimaev
Former champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), American Kamaru Usman, explained his defeat by UAE representative Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294. The athlete spoke out on his YouTube channel.
According to the fighter, he showed too much respect for his opponent. “At the beginning of the fight I lost to him mentally. And the rest of the fight tried to make up for lost time in the first round,” Usman noted.
Chimaev defeated Usman on October 21. The fight ended in three rounds with the victory of the fighter of Chechen origin by majority decision of the judges. In total, Chimaev spent 13 fights in his professional career without suffering a single defeat.
Usman held the UFC welterweight title from 2019 to 2022. He has 24 fights, in which he won 20 victories and suffered four defeats.
