Discussions about public media have been ongoing since the elections. The opposition promised that depoliticization was on the list of priorities after taking power. Unofficially, it is said that the atmosphere on Polish Television is becoming more and more tense in connection with the above-mentioned declarations. In “Wiadomości” journalists talk about a “return to communist traditions”.
TVP reporter ridiculed in the Sejm
A report from the Sejm on the situation of public media was prepared for TVP by Bartosz Łyżwiński. “The most important thing for the Civic Platform now is to take over the media,” he began the material, and then presented how he was treated by members of the Civic Coalition. The first person the reporter stopped was Cezary Tomczyk, who decided to record the conversation with the journalist on his phone. He explained that he was doing it because Telewizja Polska asked him to comment and apparently he wanted to have his own video in case there was an attempt to manipulate his statement.
“The first, most important plan is to depoliticize the public media,” Tomczyk explained to the reporter and was critical of TVP journalists. “Will you decide who is a journalist?” – asked a public media employee. A member of the Civic Coalition denied these words. “Viewers decide. Social control decides. Certainly not a political party,” he said, referring to the current state of TVP.
Katarzyna Lubnauer with a cutting retort: We only respond to journalists
Later in the material, we hear a statement by Joanna Lichocka from Law and Justice, who accuses the opposition of repeating communist traditions. Łyżwiński decided to ask Katarzyna Lubnaurer, an MP from the Civic Coalition, for a comment on this matter.
When asked “can we?” the reporter heard a short “no”. Lubnauer asked “why?” in a theatrical tone. The MP ended the discussion with a sharp retort. “We only respond to journalists,” she said. Łyżwiński explained that he has been working in the profession for 18 years. “You shouldn’t have chosen this die,” the politician said as she left.
