Russian athletes refused to participate in the Wushu World Championships in the USA without a flag and anthem

The Russian Wushu Federation announced its refusal to participate in the World Championships in the USA due to discrimination. The words of the organization’s executive secretary, Mikhail Kozhemyakin, are reported by TASS.

“It is unacceptable for us to compete at international competitions without the flag and anthem of our country. This is a decision of both the presidium of our federation and the athletes themselves,” explained Kozhemyakin. He noted that the federation is working on alternative tournament formats for athletes.

Initially, the World Wushu Championship was supposed to be held in the USA in 2021. However, the tournament was postponed to 2023 due to the coronavirus pandemic. It will take place from November 14 to 22 in Fort Worth, USA.

At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended Russians and Belarusians from tournaments on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee.
