NHL reconsiders decision regarding event in support of LGBT

NHL lifts ban on pro-LGBTQ events

The leadership of the National Hockey League (NHL) has reconsidered the decision regarding the action in support of the LGBT community. This is reported on the organization’s website.

The NHL has lifted its previous ban. “Players will now have the opportunity to voluntarily demonstrate their social causes through the use of tape on their sticks throughout the season,” the organization said in a statement.

On October 11, it became known that the NHL banned hockey players from wrapping rainbow ribbons on their sticks in support of LGBT people during training and during matches. It is noted that the notification was sent to all 32 clubs.

During the 2022/2023 season, the Minnesota Wild, Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers refused to participate in the promotions. In addition, Russian hockey players Ivan Provorov from the Philadelphia Flyers and Ilya Lyubushkin from the Buffalo Sabers did not wear rainbow uniforms.
