Krystyna Durys, a famous singer from Pomerania, has died. The esteemed jazz singer died at the age of only 38.

Krystyna Durys’ death was announced by her husband, musician Adam Zagrodzki. The artist died suddenly on October 19, two days after the concert at the Sokołów Cultural Center. The singer was only 38 years old. The cause of death was a heart attack. “A great talent passed away today,” Zagrodzki wrote on Facebook and published a black and white photo of his partner.

The artist said goodbye to, among others, the South Silesian Brass Band, with which Durys collaborated. “A wonderful jazz singer,” writes the band. “We still remember our cooperation as an inexpressible pleasure,” he adds.

Durys supported the Why NIE Association with its activities, which also said goodbye to the artist. “Ms. Krystyna has been supporting our initiatives for years with her enormous talent and sensitivity. She always willingly responded to our invitation. This is a great loss for the world’s music scene. The talent, charm, elegance and joy she brought to the stage will always remain in memory,” we read in the association’s statement.

Krystyna Durys, also known as Christine, was born in 1985 in Gdynia. The singer was fascinated by swing, Dixieland and bossa nova. She graduated from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Gdańsk, but she connected her life with jazz music. In 2014, she was the winner of the 22nd Old Jazz Meeting – Złota Tarka in Iława. Two years later, she won second place in the “New Hope” category of the Jazz Forum survey. She was also nominated for the Melomani Grand Prix.

As we read on swingujace3miasto.pl, Durys started her career in youth choirs in Sopot and Sztum. She cooperated with, among others: with: Jan Konop Big Band, Riverboat Ramblers Swing Orchestra, Set Trio and Jazzy2. Since 2012, she has performed with her own band.

The artist played at many jazz festivals such as: Java Jazz Festival in Indonesia, International Jazz Festival Prague in the Czech Republic, Music Autumn in Slovakia, Hallevik TradJazz Festival in Sweden, the Danish Ostenso Jazz Festival on Bornholm, as well as the Ladies’ Jazz Festival in Gdynia, Wieluńskie Jazz Meetings and Polish Happy Jazz Fest in Gliwice. She has released two albums. She released the last one (“At The Movies”) in 2022.
