ISU allowed figure skater Sofya Samodelkina to compete at the Kazakhstan Championships

The International Skating Union (ISU) allowed Russian figure skater Sofya Samodelkina to compete at the Kazakhstan Championships. RIA Novosti reports this.

The executive director of the Kazakhstan Figure Skating Union, Nadezhda Perfilyeva, said that the athlete is a citizen of the country, therefore she has the right to compete in tournaments. At the same time, Perfilyeva emphasized that Samodelkina did not state whether she would continue her career as an athlete of Kazakhstan.

The desire of 16-year-old Samodelkina to change her sports citizenship and compete for Kazakhstan became known on August 4. The Russian Figure Skating Federation stated that the issue of the athlete’s transfer will be considered no earlier than December.

Samodelkina is Russian vice-champion in women’s singles skating among juniors. The skater also has victories and prizes at the stages of the Russian Cup.
