“Thank you to my Ecuador and Chile for supporting all the athletes,” said Richard Carapaz after winning the silver medal at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.

Richard Carapaz, Locomotive Carchiwrote his name in the history of the Pan American Games by winning the silver medal in the time trial held in the city of Isla Maipo, which belongs to the metropolitan region of Santiago.

With a time of 47 minutes, 36 seconds and 2 hundredths of a second, Carapaz took second place on the podium, behind Colombian Walter Vargas, who clocked 47:02:72. Third place was taken by Conor White from Bermuda in 48:13:96.

“In the end, it was a very difficult exam. We knew that it was a fairly flat route and that it was not our strong point. There were many important names,” commented the 30-year-old from Carchez to UNIVERSE and print media from several South American countries.

Although he didn’t come top, Richie said: “I’m very happy with the result and the support that this great fan, who took to the streets, gave today.”

He also pointed out: “It fills me with pride that many people from all over have come to cheer on all of us athletes who are here.”

And he remarked: “I am also grateful to my country for all the good wishes for the tricolor delegation that came to do their best.”

Their next competition will be on Sunday, October 29, at the San Cristóbal hill road test. (D)
