Zhurova doubted that talented athletes would be able to restrict travel
First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs and Olympic champion in speed skating Svetlana Zhurova appreciated the idea of limiting the travel of talented athletes abroad. This was reported by Podem.
The deputy doubted that this could be done. “Now the borders are open, parents can make any decision, at any stage, and it is quite difficult to prohibit it. People move freely, how can you stop them?” – said Zhurova.
She also noted that in Russia it is necessary to create conditions for professional growth for athletes. “Someone else needs to finance teams, including children’s teams,” Zhurova added.
Earlier on October 21, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin said that the department, together with the State Duma, would develop restrictions on the travel of talented Russian athletes abroad. “Let’s see how we can protect the interests of Russian hockey, athletes, coaches and sports schools in order to limit the departure of talented athletes,” he said.
