Tarasova: Putin is right, athletes should make their own decisions about participation in the Olympic Games
Honored figure skating coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova appreciated the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin about the participation of Russians in the Olympic Games in a neutral status. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Tarasova said that the president spoke absolutely correctly when he invited athletes to decide for themselves whether to go to the Olympics or not. “They have been preparing for these competitions all their lives. If they are ready to go and win, they need to do it,” the specialist emphasized.
Previously, Putin said that Russian athletes must independently decide to participate in the Olympics in 2024. “Of course, we must first of all be guided by the interests of athletes in this situation,” the head of state noted. At the same time, he called the exclusion of domestic athletes ethnic discrimination.
In March, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions.
