Kozhevnikov called the situation with foreign transfers of young hockey players critical
Two-time Olympic champion in hockey Alexander Kozhevnikov called the situation with foreign transfers of young players critical. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Kozhevnikov said that at least 50 promising Russian hockey players under 16 go abroad every year. “We need to raise children in the spirit of patriotism from mother’s milk,” summed up the hockey legend.
On October 19, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin called for an investigation into the transfers of young Russian hockey players to foreign clubs. “We need to understand what we should do with these hockey businessmen who take children from sports schools and drag them abroad,” said the head of state.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions.
