Putin signed a decree on holding the World Friendship Games in Russia in 2024
Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to hold the World Friendship Games. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
The head of state has already signed a corresponding decree. The tournament will be held in Moscow and Yekaterinburg in 2024. It is noted that this decision was made in order to ensure guaranteed free access of Russian athletes and sports organizations to international sports activities, and the development of new formats of international sports cooperation.
Earlier, Putin said that the exclusion of Russian athletes from international tournaments is ethnic discrimination. “We learned that an invitation to the Games is not an unconditional right of the best athletes, but a kind of privilege and it can be earned not by sports results, but by some kind of political gestures,” said the head of state.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions.
