Banka said that WADA accused 222 Russians of violating anti-doping rules
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has convicted 222 Russian athletes. RIA Novosti reports this
“To date, 222 verdicts have been issued, charges have been brought in 58 cases, 145 cases remain under investigation,” said WADA head Witold Banka. The violations were discovered after rechecking the data from the Moscow laboratory (LIMS).
On September 22, WADA said that the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) had not met the requirements to restore its status, since the code was not integrated into national legislation. It was noted that the Russian side can appeal this within 21 days from the date of receipt of the official notification.
In December 2019, the WADA Executive Committee decided to deprive Russia of the right to host the Olympic Games and World Championships, and Russian athletes of the flag and anthem for four years. The reason was the deprivation of RUSADA’s compliance status. In November 2022, WADA decided to extend the suspension of RUSADA.
