The IOC condemned calls for the complete suspension of Russian athletes

The IOC retained the March recommendations and condemned the call to completely suspend Russia

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has condemned calls for a complete suspension of Russian athletes. Match TV reports this.

“The IOC aims to eliminate discrimination against athletes based on their nationality. “Athletes should not be sanctioned for the actions of their governments,” said James McLeod, director of IOC National Olympic Committee Relations. He also expressed disapproval of the refusal of some countries to issue visas to Russian athletes to participate in competitions. At the same time, the organization stated that it maintains the current recommendations for the return of athletes to tournaments.

On October 12, the IOC suspended the ROC until further notice due to the inclusion of representatives of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into the organization. “The ROC can no longer act as a National Olympic Committee and receive funds from the IOC,” explained IOC Communications Director Mark Adams. However, no final decision has been made on the participation of Russians in the 2024 Games.

On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who do not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. However, athletes associated with the armed forces or security forces of their countries are recommended not to be allowed to participate in tournaments.
