Makhachev called Nurmagomedov the greatest lightweight fighter in MMA history
Russian champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Islam Makhachev called the greatest lightweight fighter in the history of mixed martial arts (MMA). The athlete’s words are quoted by the TSN YouTube channel.
“Khabib [Нурмагомедов] – the best fighter in the history of the lightweight division. He destroyed every opponent he ever faced,” Makhachev said.
On October 23, Makhachev defeated Brazilian fighter Charles Oliveira at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi to become the UFC lightweight champion. In total, in his professional career he suffered one defeat and won 24 victories.
Nurmagomedov defended his UFC lightweight title three times before retiring in 2020. In total, the athlete won 29 victories in 29 professional fights in mixed martial arts.
After finishing his performances, Nurmagomedov began coaching. In 2022, he was named the best trainer of the year according to MMA Junkie.
