The Iranian Embassy denied information about Ronaldo facing corporal punishment
The Iranian Embassy in Spain commented on information about corporal punishment facing Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo for kissing Iranian artist Fatima Hamami. The statement was posted on the embassy’s social media account X (formerly Twitter).
Iranians have denied the news that Ronaldo could be punished if he returns to the country in the future. “His sincere and human meeting with Fatima Hamami also received high praise and admiration from both the people and the sports authorities of the country,” the statement said.
On October 11, Index HR reported that Ronaldo had broken laws in Iran and could face 99 lashes upon his return to the country. The forward, who plays for the Saudi Al-Nasr, came to Tehran for the Asian Champions League match with the local Persepolis (2:0). As part of the trip, he held a meeting with fans, including an artist named Fatima. While communicating with a disabled artist, the football player hugged and kissed her.
Ronaldo joined the Al-Nasr squad on December 30, 2022. In total, he played 30 matches for the Saudi team, scoring 25 goals and giving 8 assists.
