Wiener criticized the IOC’s decision to suspend the ROC

Irina Viner suggested that Russia be the first to refuse to participate in the Olympic Games

President of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics (VFKhG) Irina Viner spoke about the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to suspend the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). Her words are quoted by Sport24.

Wiener was critical of the IOC’s move. She suggested that Russia be the first to refuse to participate in the Olympic Games. “We are being pressed and humiliated so much that I don’t see a positive outcome in which we will be able to speak,” said the head of the WFHG.

On October 12, the IOC suspended the ROC until further notice due to the inclusion of representatives of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into the organization. “The ROC can no longer act as a National Olympic Committee and receive funds from the IOC,” explained IOC Communications Director Mark Adams. However, no final decision has been made on the participation of Russians in the 2024 Games.

On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who do not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. However, athletes associated with the armed forces or security forces of their countries are recommended not to be allowed to participate in tournaments.
