The IOC explained the continuation of work with Isinbayeva

Isinbayeva continued to work at the IOC because she did not have contracts with the Russian army

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) commented on the situation with Olympic pole vault champion Elena Isinbaeva. The words of IOC head Thomas Bach are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Bach explained that Isinbayeva continued to work on the athletes’ commission because she is not associated with the Russian army. For the same reason, the IOC did not stop collaborating with the President of the Russian Tennis Federation, Shamil Tarpishchev, within the framework of the Olympism365 commission. “IOC members do not represent Russia in the IOC, they are representatives of the IOC in Russia,” Bach added.

On September 5, it became known that Isinbayeva retained her seat on the IOC Athletes’ Commission, which she has been a member of since 2016. Before this, a check was carried out in her regard: the organization came to the conclusion that the former athlete could continue to work in the organization, since she did not support the SVO in Ukraine and did not have a contract with the Russian army or law enforcement agencies.

Isinbayeva is a two-time Olympic champion in pole vaulting. She holds 28 world records in this athletics discipline.
