Bach: to be admitted to the 2024 Games, Russian athletes should not be associated with OCD
The head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, spoke about the admission of Russians to the 2024 Olympic Games against the backdrop of the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). His words are quoted by TASS.
“We have reserved the right to invite neutral athletes with Russian passports, which means that the ROC has no role in this matter. It is important that there is no connection with the OCD or Russia,” Bach said. He added that there is no deadline for the admission of Russians to the tournament.
On October 12, the IOC suspended the ROC until further notice due to the inclusion of representatives of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into the organization. “The ROC can no longer act as a National Olympic Committee and receive funds from the IOC,” explained IOC Communications Director Mark Adams.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who do not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. However, athletes associated with the armed forces or security forces of their countries are recommended not to be allowed to participate in tournaments.
