Shevchenko welcomed the cancellation of the UEFA decision on the admission of Russian youth teams
Former football player and coach of the Ukrainian national team Andrei Shevchenko commented on the cancellation of the decision of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to admit Russian youth teams to international tournaments. He positively assessed UEFA’s decision not to consider allowing Russian football teams under 17 years of age to participate in the competition. “Age category has no meaning in world justice. This is a small but important step,” he explained.
On October 10, it became known that the decision of the UEFA executive committee on the admission of Russian national teams among players under 17 years of age to international competitions was canceled. The first vice-president of UEFA said that it was inappropriate to welcome Russian teams.
On September 26, the UEFA Executive Committee proposed allowing Russian youths to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. After this, some countries, including Ukraine and England, announced their intention to boycott matches with Russian teams.
