IOC head Bach said the IBA has no chance of organizing an Olympic tournament
President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach assessed the possibility of restoring the International Boxing Association (IBA), headed by Russian Umar Kremlev. His words are quoted by the Indian Express.
Bach said the organization no longer has a chance to organize an Olympic boxing tournament. “Everything is over. Dot. We gave them four years. The way they are behaving now does not give hope for an improvement in the situation,” explained the head of the IOC.
On June 22, IOC Director General Christophe de Kepper announced that the organization had decided to withdraw recognition of the IBA. He called the association’s policy a complete disrespect for the principles of international sport.
Prior to this, the IBA refused to follow the IOC recommendations to deprive Russian and Belarusian athletes of their national flags and anthems. Athletes competed in tournaments without restrictions.
