Volkanovski will replace Oliveira, who withdrew from his fight with Makhachev at UFC 294
Brazilian mixed style (MMA) fighter Charles Oliveira withdrew from the fight against the Russian champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in lightweight weight Islam Makhachev. This was reported on the promotion website.
UFC chief White explained that Oliveira suffered a severe cut to his eyebrow in sparring during preparation for the fight. The Brazilian and the Russian were scheduled to have a rematch on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.
In the fight, Oliveira will be replaced by Australian Alexander Volkanovski, the organization’s featherweight champion. The athletes already met in the octagon in February, then Makhachev won by unanimous decision and defended the championship belt.
In total, the Russian fought 25 fights in his career, in which he won 24 victories and suffered one defeat. Volkanovski has 26 wins and two losses.
