Biathlon world champion and Russian State Duma deputy Anton Shipulin spoke in defense of sports representatives in parliament. He posted the corresponding post on Instagram.
34-year-old Shipulin shared with subscribers the news that he was appointed deputy chairman of the committee for physical culture and sports. “Perhaps this appointment is the answer to endless questions about the need for athletes in the State Duma,” he wrote. The biathlete also stood up for former athletes in parliament, noting that they should be engaged in sports and physical education.
Shipulin is not the first time to touch on this topic. In March 2020, the parliamentarian responded to criticism from the four-time Olympic champion Anfisa Reztsova. She accused the athletes who submitted to the State Duma of wanting to “fill their pockets”.
In February of the same year, Shipulin commented on the dissatisfaction of Russians with the high salaries of deputies. The ex-biathlete admitted that he gives half of his salary in the State Duma to the Council of Veterans.
Shipulin completed performances in December 2018. On his account, the gold of the biathlon world championship, as well as three silver medals at the world championships.
