The WBC President explained Beterbiev’s admission to fights after the Russians were suspended

Suleiman explained Beterbiev’s admission to fights by the boxer’s Canadian passport

President of the World Boxing Council (WBC) Mauricio Suleiman explained why Artur Beterbiev was allowed to compete internationally after the suspension of Russian athletes. The words of the functionary are quoted by the YouTube channel Boxing Scene.

“Arthur has been living in Canada for 15 years. He has a Canadian passport, a Canadian boxing license. His children were born in Canada. This is a completely different story,” Suleiman said.

On January 29, the Russian met in the ring with Briton Anthony Yarde and won by technical knockout in the eighth round. He defended three world titles in the light heavyweight category – according to the World Boxing Council (WBC), the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO).

During his career, the 38-year-old Russian won 19 victories and did not suffer a single defeat. In 2013, he and his family moved to Montreal.
