Pozdnyakov called the IOC recommendations on neutral status sports genocide
The head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Stanislav Pozdnyakov, criticized the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on a neutral status for Russian athletes. His words are reported by TASS.
“We can directly say that the IOC is forcing our athletes, in exchange for admission to competition, to renounce their nationality, life principles and their sports federation, team and their industry partners,” he said, calling the committee’s decision a sports genocide.
According to Pozdnyakov, the IOC recommendations create the illusion of following peacekeeping and unifying missions. “They made their choice, sport became part of politics, lost its independence and now works on the orders of its sponsors and benefactors,” he concluded.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who do not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. However, athletes associated with the armed forces or security forces of their countries are recommended not to be allowed to participate in tournaments.
