The Ukrainian Football Association called on UEFA members to boycott matches with Russia

The Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) once again called on members of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to boycott matches with Russia. The appeal was published in the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.

The UAF noted that football should promote peace, tolerance and justice. “Comprehensive arguments and arguments regarding the inadmissibility of making such decisions were, in particular, set out in the official appeal of the UAF to the International Football Federation (FIFA), UEFA and national associations – members of UEFA,” the organization said.

On September 26, the UEFA Executive Committee proposed allowing Russian national teams among players under 17 years of age to participate in international tournaments. The organization noted that the proposal includes admission in a neutral status, that is, athletes can receive the right to compete without the flag and anthem. On October 4, FIFA made the same decision.

After this, some countries announced their intention to boycott matches with Russian teams. In addition to Ukraine, such a decision was announced by England, Poland, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden, Norway and Romania.
