Russian fighter Islam Makhachev spoke about his desire to become a double UFC champion
Russian mixed style (MMA) fighter Islam Makhachev spoke about his dream of becoming a double champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). His words are quoted by ESPN.
“I don’t know what the UFC is planning, but my dream is to fight for the second belt,” he said. Makhachev noted that he wants to fight the winner of the welterweight fight between American Colby Covington and Briton Leon Edwards.
Makhachev is the current UFC lightweight champion. He won the belt in October 2022 with a stoppage win over Brazilian Charles Oliveira at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. Subsequently, he successfully defended the title in a fight against Australian Alexander Volkanovski, the organization’s featherweight champion.
In total, the Russian fought 25 fights in his career, in which he won 24 victories and suffered one defeat. On October 21, he will have another title defense – a rematch against Oliveira.
