Olympic champion Ilya Kovalchuk appreciated the removal of Russian hockey players from international tournaments. His words are reported by RIA Novosti.

Kovalchuk expressed hope that the Russian Hockey Federation will be able to establish contact with the International Hockey Federation (IIHF). “The tasks of the hockey federation are to build new relationships and find a way out of the current situation. We have competent people who will find common denominators,” he noted.

Earlier, the head of the IIHF, Luc Tardif, spoke about the possible admission of the Russian junior team to tournaments under the auspices of the organization. “This is only possible in the 2024/2025 season, if there are appropriate conditions for this,” he said.

The IIHF suspended the Russian and Belarusian national teams from participating in competitions under its auspices in February 2022. Russia was also deprived of the right to host the 2023 World Cup and the World Youth Championship.
