The State Duma responded to the apology of the UEFA vice-president for the admission of Russians

Svishchev said that UEFA apologized for admitting the Russian team due to politics

State Duma deputy Dmitry Svishchev responded to the apology of the first vice-president of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Karl-Erik Nilsson for his proposal to admit Russian youth teams to international tournaments. The deputy’s words are quoted by Izvestia.

“Politics turns on, they start beating their own athletes, sports officials, in principle, for the right decision, but, you see, not coordinated with the position of official Stockholm,” Svishchev considered.

Nilsson is also the head of the Swedish Football Association. Earlier on October 3, it became known that he expressed regret that his position on the admission of Russians was perceived as a refusal to defend the common position of Sweden.

On September 26, the UEFA Executive Committee proposed allowing Russian national teams among players under 17 years of age to participate in international tournaments. The organization noted that the proposal includes admission in a neutral status, that is, athletes can receive the right to compete without the flag and anthem. Later, England, Poland, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden, Norway, Romania and Ukraine announced that their junior teams would refuse matches with Russian teams.
