MMA fighter Khamzat Chimaev said he changed his citizenship for a better career
Mixed style fighter (MMA) Khamzat Chimaev explained the decision to change citizenship. His words are reported by Calfkicker.
“I’ll tell everyone who says I left Sweden, I just moved to Dubai. Everyone is trying to create a big political event. But it’s better for your career,” he said. Chimaev noted that it is better to train in Dubai, because it is always sunny there and you won’t freeze.
On September 22, the fighter’s manager, Mahdi Shammas, announced that Chimaev had renounced his Swedish citizenship. In the next match, the athlete will compete for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and will represent the Grozny team “Akhmat”.
On October 21, Chimaev will meet with Brazilian Paulo Costa. The fight will take place in Abu Dhabi as part of the 294th tournament of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Chimaev had 12 fights in his professional career without suffering a single defeat. In his last fight, on September 10, 2022, the athlete defeated American Kevin Holland by choke. The fighter was born in Chechnya, but at the age of 16 he moved to Sweden.
