Russian UFC champion Islam Makhachev said he is not thinking about retiring

Russian mixed style (MMA) fighter Islam Makhachev answered a question about retiring from his career. His words are quoted by UFC Eurasia on Instagram (the social network is banned in the Russian Federation; it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned).

The champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) said that he does not think about it. “Yesterday I took tests on my general physical condition, and from year to year the indicators are only growing. This time I did much better than even my coach expected, so I’m not standing still, I’m not going backwards,” he emphasized.

Makhachev is the current UFC lightweight champion. He won the belt in October 2022 with a stoppage victory over Brazilian Charles Oliveira at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. Subsequently, he successfully defended the title in a fight against Australian Alexander Volkanovski, the organization’s featherweight champion.

In total, the Russian fought 25 fights in his career, in which he won 24 victories and suffered one defeat. On October 21, he will have another title defense – a rematch against Oliveira.
