Zakharova: English football players excluded themselves from a fair fight with the Russians

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, appreciated the refusal of the English junior teams to play matches with Russian teams. Her words are quoted by Sport Express.

“British Russophobes have long had a syndrome of exclusivity,” Zakharova said.

In her opinion, the British excluded themselves from a fair fight.

On September 26, the Football Association of England announced that junior teams would refuse matches with Russian teams. The organization stated that it opposes Russia’s return to the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) competitions.

On the same day, September 26, the UEFA Executive Committee proposed allowing Russian national teams among players under 17 years of age to participate in international tournaments. The executive committee noted that the proposal includes admission in a neutral status, that is, athletes can receive the right to compete without the flag and anthem.
