English under-17 football teams will refuse to play against the Russians

The Football Association of England announced that junior teams will refuse matches with Russian teams. The Times reports this.

The association stated that it opposes Russia’s return to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) competitions. “Our position remains unchanged,” they emphasized.

Earlier, on September 26, the UEFA Executive Committee proposed allowing Russian national teams among players under 17 years of age to participate in international tournaments. The executive committee noted that the proposal includes admission in a neutral status, that is, athletes can receive the right to compete without the flag and anthem.

In March 2023, London asked major sponsors of the Olympic Games to put pressure on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to prevent Russian athletes from participating in the competition. Culture Secretary Lucy Fraser has asked British leaders of the IOC’s international partners, including Coca-Cola, Intel, Samsung and Visa, to put pressure on the IOC over a possible easing of the ban.
