Lawyer Antseliovich said that Valieva faces up to four years of disqualification
Sports lawyer Anna Antseliovich spoke about the punishment facing Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. The specialist’s words are quoted by KP.RU.
“I think that, given her status as a “protected person,” they will consider sanctions in the form of a reprimand or two years of disqualification,” Antseliovich expressed her assumption. She emphasized that the status of a “protected person” (assigned to Valieva because she was under 16 years of age at the time of the anti-doping rule violation) approx. “Tapes.ru”) greatly influences the consideration of the case and can save the skater.

Antseliovich noted that there is a chance for the athlete’s acquittal if the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) supports Valieva’s side, which does not admit guilt. The lawyer added that the Russian Anti-Doping Agency is asking for the minimum possible sanction for the skater in the form of a warning, the International Skating Union is asking for two years, and the World Anti-Doping Agency is asking for four years of disqualification.
At the 2022 Olympic Games, Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the Russian team was not awarded due to the doping scandal involving her. Traces of a prohibited drug were found in the skater’s sample from December 2021. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
