The OCA said that Russia missed the Asian Games due to logistics problems
The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) explained why the Russian team was forced to skip the 2023 Asian Games. The organization’s statement is quoted by Inside the Games.
“The Chinese organizing committee provided 500 places, but, unfortunately, the logistics did not work out – otherwise the athletes would have been welcome,” said OCA acting president Randhir Singh.
On September 1, it became known that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) refused to allow Russian athletes to participate in the Asian Games, despite the fact that the OCA was ready to provide quotas for Russians to qualify for the Olympics. The tournament began on September 23.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions. After this, a number of federations allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to return to competitions.
