Next weekend, from Friday, September 29 to Sunday, October 1, the Shopping Day, date on which commercial establishments will compete to offer attractive offers and promotions for consumers. Indecopi provides recommendations to avoid inconveniences when purchasing and proceed safely.

The institution urges consumers to ensure that offers meet the condition of being exceptional and temporary, and that they represent better sales conditions than those usually offered, whether through price reductions, contests, raffles, exchanges or other similar ones.

To do this, it is advisable to verify that the advertisements for offers or promotions comply with the following information:

  • Duration of the offer or promotion.
  • Minimum quantity of units of products available, that is, the stock of the product.
  • Existing conditions and restrictions to access offers or promotions, which must be informed clearly, prominently and easily noticed. Particularly, make sure you are satisfied with the conditions of delivery of the products, date and cost.
  • Accepted payment methods.
  • Total amount of the products or services, so the price must include applicable taxes, commissions and/or other charges. When it comes to products that are sold on credit, it must also include the amount of the initial payment, interest, the applicable annual effective interest rate and the details of any additional charges.
  • If the price is advertised in dollars, it must also be stated in soles under the same conditions, or the exchange rate to be applied.

In addition, Indecopi recommends consumers verify that the price charged matches the advertised price or that it includes the percentage discount offered. “It is also advisable to keep proof of payment and advertising of the offer or promotion. Remember that these documents will serve as means of proof in the event of any subsequent claim or complaint,” he mentions.

In relation to suppliers, each establishment must have the Complaints Book and its respective notice, which must be placed in a visible place for consumers.
