PSG head Al-Khelaifi said the club congratulated Messi on winning the 2022 World Cup
Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi responded to criticism from former club forward Lionel Messi over his congratulations on the world title. His words are reported by RMC Sport.
The head of the French club said that the team congratulated Messi on his victory at the 2022 World Cup. “Everyone saw how we congratulated Messi in training. Everyone congratulated him, but personally. We are a French club. It would be wrong to have a party at a stadium. We must respect our country, the French national team players and their fans,” he explained.
Earlier, Messi, in an interview with the YouTube channel Olga, said that he was the only player who was not congratulated by PSG on winning the World Cup in Qatar.
The Argentina national team, captained by Messi, defeated France and won the trophy for the third time in history. Regular time ended with the score 2:2. In extra time, the teams scored another goal. Argentina turned out to be stronger in the penalty shootout – 4:2.
