Figure skater Roman Kostomarov: sometimes my leg itches, but I can’t scratch it

Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov spoke about phantom pain after amputation of limbs. He announced this on the air of the “Secret for a Million” program, Gazeta.ru reports.

The athlete said that he felt his toes, which he could stretch. “It feels like I have a leg. There is a feeling that the fist was simply bandaged tightly,” he shared.

According to Kostomarov, his shin muscles were removed, and therefore he cannot pull his ankle. “Sometimes my leg itches, but I can’t scratch it,” he added.

Earlier, Roman Kostomarov set himself the goal of returning to the ice. “How will it work out? I don’t know. But I know for sure that I will come out,” said the Olympic champion.

Roman Kostomarov was hospitalized on January 10 with pneumonia and influenza B. Due to prolonged connection to a blood oxygenation machine and a ventilator, his tissue began to die. Doctors amputated both feet of the skater, then the shins of both legs, the entire hand of his right hand and several fingers of his left.
