The Dutch Mischa Bredewold This Saturday she was proclaimed European cross-country champion in the cycling race by winning the test held between Meppel and the Col du Vam, in the Netherlands, on 129.6 kilometersand she did so ahead of her compatriot Lorena Wiebes, who was defending the title, and the Belgian Lotte Kopecky, world champion.

The new European road champion won alone after attacking a small group of runners with 10 kilometers to go and crossed the finish line four seconds ahead of Wiebes, who beat Kopecky in the sprint for second place.

Bredewold, 23 years old and integrated into the SD Worx team, she thus achieved her seventh victory as a professional and her first in a major competition. Her victory increases the dominance of the Dutch cyclists in the continental long-distance road event, who only missed the gold in the 2018 edition, which was won by the Italian Marta Bastianelli.

The cyclists from the Netherlands already have eight titles: Anna van der Breggen in 2016, Marianne Vos in 2017, Amy Pieters in 2019, Annemiek van Vleuten in 2020, Ellen van Dijk in 2021, Lorena Wiebes in 2022 and Mischa Bredewold in 2023.
