Zhurova appreciated WADA’s statements about RUSADA

Zhurova said that WADA is deliberately looking for arguments for sanctions against Russia

First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs and Olympic speed skating champion Svetlana Zhurova assessed the statements of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) about the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA). Her words are quoted by TASS.

According to Zhurova, WADA is deliberately looking for arguments for sanctions against Russia. “Until 2014, it turns out, our legislation was the best. And now – no. In many countries there is no anti-doping legislation at all, and they perform with a flag and anthem,” she said.

Earlier, WADA emphasized that RUSADA still does not comply with the World Anti-Doping Code, since the document is not integrated into national legislation. It was noted that the Russian side can appeal this within 21 days from the date of receipt of the official notification.

In December 2019, the WADA Executive Committee decided to deprive Russia of the right to host the Olympic Games and World Championships, and Russian athletes of the flag and anthem for four years. The reason was the deprivation of RUSADA’s compliance status. In November 2022, WADA decided to extend the suspension of RUSADA.
