Perupetro reported that it will sign a contract for up to 2 years with Petroperu for a temporary operation of lots I, VI and Z-2B of Talara, after the direct negotiation process with the oil company was rejected this week by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem).
Through a statement, the agency responsible for managing, promoting and negotiating hydrocarbon contracts in the country indicated that this commission could be interrupted if a new Contract for the Exploitation of Hydrocarbons is finalized before 2 years, which Minem anticipated as International competition.
“On September 20, 2023, new Base Lines have been approved for Contracting by Direct Negotiation of License Contracts for the exploitation of Hydrocarbons in Lots I, VI and Z-69, temporary, whose validity periods will be 2 years or until the effective date of a new Contract for the Exploitation of Hydrocarbons, whichever occurs first,” said Perupetro.
In this way, the granting of the aforementioned Lots to Petroperú for 30 years, as originally proposed, is officially void, but “without putting at risk the continuity of the hydrocarbon production of the mentioned lots,” according to the agency.
Perupetro also highlighted that the original proposal for lots I, VI and Z-2B of Talara, which included Petroperú, contemplated the drilling of 1 exploratory well, in order to guarantee the replenishment of reserves in the northwest.
“Not having made such inclusion would have been unresponsible, since only oil would have been extracted without the possibility of maintaining or increasing reserves,” the document continues.
Finally, Perupetro reported that it will continue working to ensure the continuity of oil exploitation of the current production lots, as well as the promotion of the exploitation and exploration of new oil lots.
“Handled by national and foreign private investment, and for the benefit of all Peruvians,” he stated.
