Simona Halep sues dietary supplement manufacturer after suspension for doping
Romanian tennis player Simona Halep has filed a lawsuit against a dietary supplement company after being disqualified for doping. Digi Sport reports this.
“We filed a lawsuit against a Canadian company about a month ago. The claim can only be compensatory and has no consequences for the sport,” said the athlete’s lawyer Bogdan Stoica.
On September 14, Halep was suspended for doping until October 6, 2026. The former first racket of the world, while performing at the US Open in August 2022, gave a sample in which the banned substance roxadustat was found. In September, the athlete announced an early end to the season due to surgery on her nose. In October 2022, it became known about A’s positive test.
Halep has 24 titles in Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tournaments, including victories at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. At the end of 2017 and 2018, the Romanian athlete topped the WTA rankings. She is now in ninth place on the list of the best tennis players in the world.
