Although the official Polish premiere of “The Green Border” takes place today, some cinemas invited viewers to earlier preview screenings. One of such places is the Warsaw PKiN Cinema, where screaming national circles were waiting for viewers yesterday. The demonstrators carried banners and – as we hear in the recording – shouted slogans made famous by right-wing media.

“The Green Border” was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Venice festival, and as he writes in his review of the production: “It’s a damn important, painful and necessary film. It’s not a lampoon on the Border Guard, PiS or PO, it’s not propaganda or a political manifesto “It’s a story about the drama of people who want to remain those people.”

This, however, does not stop politicians of the ruling camp and the media subordinated to them to continue their massive campaign against Agnieszka Holland’s latest film, which they call a “lambda” or “reptile”.

Nationalists protest in front of cinemas. They also unexpectedly appeared in Warsaw

National groups also decided to join the campaign to disgust the film. Yesterday, before the planned pre-premiere screening of “The Green Border”, a protest of the All-Polish Youth structures took place in front of the Pod Baranami Cinema in Krakow. “Only pigs sit in the cinema! Let’s not allow open Belarusian-Putin propaganda in our city! Join our picket,” they wrote in the protest announcement.

Nationalists from Warsaw also decided to organize a similar event. A group of a dozen or so people (mainly men) appeared in front of the PKiN Cinematheque during the pre-premiere screening of “The Green Border”. They chanted loudly the slogans: “Only pigs sit in the cinema” (known from the scandalous statement of the Border Guard) and “A wall behind the Polish uniform”, which are constantly repeated in the materials of the pro-government Polish Television. One of the witnesses in an interview with Kultura Gazeta.pl admitted that the phrase “Once with a sickle, once with a hammer, red rabble” was also shouted. After some time, the police arrived on site.

The event was also accompanied by a press conference attended by “aspiring” politicians. Among them there was, among others: the leader of the Warsaw national community, Aleksander Kowaliński, and Michał Nieznański, who are running in the upcoming parliamentary elections to the Sejm on behalf of the Confederation. In this way, they probably wanted to gain publicity that would make it easier for them to obtain a parliamentary mandate. However, I think that the customers of Kinoteka PKiN will probably not be among their voters.

The government orders a special spot to be broadcast. But can he actually preach?

Yesterday, Błażej Poboży, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Interior and Administration, stated that before the screenings of “The Green Border”, a special spot will be shown in arthouse cinemas, explaining the situation on the border from the government’s perspective. The Association of Arthouse Cinemas reacted to this decision and issued a statement:

Cinemas associated with the Association are run by entities independent of the Association of Arthouse Cinemas, which decide on their own about all aspects of their operations, including the film repertoire and advertising spots displayed – we read in the statement.

Maria Majchrzak, who is the project manager at Kinoteka PKiN, admitted in an interview with Kultura Gazeta.pl that in their cinema – which, incidentally, belongs to SKS – the spot will not be shown before “The Green Border”. We also decided to ask the representative of Kinoteka whether they plan to respond to them in a specific way in connection with the protests that may take place in the coming days:

We are strengthening security and being more vigilant, said Maria Majchrzak from the PKiN Kinoteka.
