Jeff Monson said that the rematch with Oleg Taktarov has been canceled

Mixed style fighter (MMA) Jeff Monson announced the cancellation of his rematch with Russian Oleg Taktarov. The athlete’s words are quoted by TASS.

“The fight will not take place,” Monson said. The reasons for the cancellation of the fight are not disclosed.

Earlier, promoter Vladimir Khryunov said that Monson plans to fight according to MMA rules with a Mexican fighter. “We are now negotiating about this, including with lawyers,” Khryunov said. The name of the opponent is not specified.

On September 18, Taktarov and Monson fought according to boxing rules. It lasted three rounds and ended in a draw. They later signed a contract for another meeting.

55-year-old Taktarov is known for his performances in early tournaments of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He won one of them, defeating Tank Abbott in the finals of UFC 6: Clash of the Titans in 1995. In his professional career, he won 17 victories and suffered 5 defeats. Two more fights with his participation ended in a draw.
