UEFA punished Ukraine for racist behavior of fans in Euro 2024 qualifying matches

The Disciplinary Committee of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has fined the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) for racist behavior of fans in the 2024 European Championship qualifying matches. This is reported on the organization’s website.

UEFA said that the Ukrainian side will have to pay a fine of 20 thousand euros for the actions of fans in the matches against England and Italy. In addition, the national team will play its next home match with a limited number of fans, namely five thousand empty seats.

The group stage of the Euro 2024 qualifying tournament will end on November 21, 2023. The Ukrainians will have a home match against North Macedonia and an away match against Malta. The team is in third place in Group C. The England team continues to lead with 13 points.

In 2021, Ukrainian fans attacked a fan wearing a Russian national team jersey during a European Championship playoff match between the teams of Ukraine and Sweden. As a result of the scuffle, a fan wearing the Russian national team uniform had his jersey torn.
