Ministry of Sports: Russians participating in the Olympic Games in neutral status will not receive prize money
Deputy Minister of Sports of Russia Azat Kadyrov announced the fate of prize money for those domestic athletes who decide to participate in the Olympics in a neutral status. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“They are going like no one from anyone, athletes must give up everything,” Kadyrov said. He emphasized that athletes will be removed from the Sports Training Center, and all expenses should be borne by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The official said that the prize fund provided for the Games in Paris, amounting to 800 million rubles, will be used to support athletes participating in the Friendship Games.
In March, the IOC recommended allowing Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special military operation in Ukraine to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in tournaments.
The Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The issue of the participation of Russian athletes in competitions has not yet been resolved.
