Kyrgyz girl mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Valentina Shevchenko said that she will need surgery after her fight with Mexican Alexa Grasso. The athlete announced this on Instagram (social network banned in the Russian Federation; belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned).
“Yesterday I received the results on my hand injury, which I received in the first round. A comminuted fracture that will require surgery,” she said.
Shevchenko and Grasso met on the night of September 17 at UFC Fight Night 227 in Las Vegas. The fight lasted all five rounds and ended in a draw. They previously fought on March 5th. Then the Mexican won by choke in the fourth round and won the UFC belt for the first time in her career. Prior to this, Shevchenko defended the promotion champion title seven times.
