Matytsin suggested that about 180 Russians will be able to go to the 2024 Games
Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin made a forecast for the number of athletes from the national team who will be able to go to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“A statistical analysis was carried out and a figure of 180 athletes was determined. But this is the maximum figure. Although the situation is changing every day, it is changing, probably not for the better,” Matytsin suggested. He explained that this value was determined based on the athletes’ capabilities in qualifying.
In March, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special military operation be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in tournaments.
The Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The issue of the participation of Russian athletes in competitions has not yet been resolved.
