Alaev said that one cannot look at the departure of players from the RPL only negatively
President of the Russian Premier League (RPL) Alexander Alaev spoke about the departure of Russian players to foreign championships. His words are quoted by RB Sport.
Alaev said that the departure of players from the RPL cannot be viewed only in a negative way. “When they leave, they become ambassadors for the league. Young talents will strive for such a championship so that later they can also interest clubs from the top leagues,” the functionary added.
On September 12, the head coach of the Russian national football team, Valery Karpin, called on the players to leave for European clubs. “I can say this again. Will the league be weaker? But those who will play there, even if there are 20 people, but they will be strong,” he expressed his opinion.
On February 28, 2022, the International Football Federation and the Union of European Football Associations excluded Russian national teams and clubs from international tournaments. Domestic teams do not compete in European competitions, and the Russian national team was deprived of the opportunity to compete for access to the final part of the 2022 World Cup.
