Navka appreciated Lithuania’s decision to deprive Drobyazko of citizenship

Navka called depriving Drobyazko of Lithuanian citizenship a short-sighted decision

Olympic champion in ice dancing Tatyana Navka appreciated the decision to deprive figure skater Margarita Drobyazko of Lithuanian citizenship. Her words are reported by TASS.

“The state is punishing its citizen, an honored and talented figure skater, for participating and performing in ice shows – fairy tales that tell about goodness, love, honor and friendship,” said Navka, calling the decision of Lithuanian politicians strange and short-sighted. She considered this a manifestation of Russophobia and noted that the country, following the lead of its Western partners, remains a loser.

On September 15, it became known that Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda had deprived Drobiazko of his citizenship. The reason was the athlete’s performance in Navka’s show in Russia. The figure skater said that she was not ready to give up Russia in order to preserve her Lithuanian passport.

Drobyazko acquired Lithuanian citizenship in 1993. Together with Povilas Vanagas, they represented the country at the Olympic Games five times. The couple has two bronze medals at the European Championships and another at the World Championships.
