Kneeling Zenit and Chelsea players booed

Fans booed the football players of Zenit St. Petersburg and Chelsea London, who knelt in the fight against racism before the match of the sixth round of the Champions League. The broadcast is conducted on the Match TV website.

Spectators in the stands of the stadium in St. Petersburg reacted negatively to the action in support of the Black Lives Matter movement (“Black lives are important”). At the time of publication of the note, the score in the match was 1: 1. Striker Timo Werner scored in the third minute, and Claudinho equalized in the 38th minute.

After five matches, the blue-white-blues have four points and are in third place in Group N. They have lost their chances of reaching the Champions League playoffs, but will play in the Europa League.

Footballers around the world are kneeling in the Black Lives Matter movement. BLM members demand systemic change and believe that the murder of African American George Floyd by a police officer is linked to racist prejudice in society.
